Where can I start, yes I loved the entire experience of the lunch!! I loved the waitress and food! The soup was amazing especially egg drop soup with a bit of the black pepper. The General Tso's chicken was amazing!! A bit crunchy and yes if u like a bit of spice order Extra Spicy. The waitress was so kind, she always refilled our drinks quickly because we had spicy food. Very nice :D thank u for listening!! Please come to this restaurant one day!! :D

Best place I have found for Chinese food in the overly saturated lake Orion area. Carrie lees offers good food with large portions! Definitely the best option for Chinese in my opinion. The general tso and orange chicken are good, the rice and egg rolls are pretty standard. The lettuce wraps we ordered were served with hearts of romaine which was odd to me and very messy, however, the actual mixture was delicious

Carrie Lee's is an institution. It's by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in the entire world. The food is spectacular, the atmosphere is nice but not stuffy. The food is fresh and comes out piping hot. After you order your entree you will be graced with a cup of some delicious wonton soup, then an egg roll (sprout-based, not cabbage-based! YES!) for a second course, and after you finish your meal, you get a cup of ice cream. You can choose from a list of about 10 flavors of ice cream. Prices are VERY reasonable. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing. 5 Stars.

Delicious! Our first time ordering... We had the chicken subgum, orange chicken, and the hot pot...all were amazing. The hot and sour soup and wonton were yummy too. Will visit again!

WOW!!! Really great take out!!! Dined on their curry noodles with BBQ Pork and Orange Chicken. Both were super good, huge portions and priced right. Definitely will order from here again!

Just finished our first but definitely NOT last dinner at Carrie Lee's. The food is fantastic and plentiful. Well seasoned, I asked for spicy and it was great. Mongolian Beef, hubby had the same. Also had an order of fried chicken dumplings. What a terrific dinner. Full bar, casual, kid friendly. We highly recommend it and will be back often.

My wife and I tried this for the first time last week and all I can say is that it was not worth our time. We did not even think of eating the leftovers

I eat here quite often, it's cheap and on my way home from work. The food is pretty good. I generally love the egg drop soup, however, I believe they dumped a bunch of water in it the last time I was in. The veggie fried rice is pretty good, with a large portion and a small price tag. The tofu pad thai wasn't all that great- a little dry and rubbery. The veggie egg rolls are always crispy and warm. Decent food for a decent price.

Great service, more than enough to eat, reasonable prices. A great place to eat away from home, away from shopping traffic

Steady favorite I've been going to for over a decade. Awesome staff, great price, consistently tasty food. Comfortable restaurant with great, local ice cream, great combos, and now they even have booze (weird combo?) for those that enjoy a drink.

We've been looking for a good Chinese restaurant since moving to this area and we finally found it! Food was fresh and tasted great. They even got my large and complicated take out order completely correct.

I keep going back to this place because it's a stones throw away from my house. Unfortunately, I keep being disappointed. I don't expect much from it because I order the typical American dishes. I want fried chicken with a savory sugary sauce with some rice. I'm not ashamed to admit it. The problem is that they can't do it. I've eaten here at least 4 times and I get the same thing (Sesame Chicken). The chicken is so over cooked that it's chewy and it's overall lacking meat. It tastes like cartilage and skin. The sauces are actually pretty good, but the chicken just ruins it. My wife generally likes lo mein dishes and last time it was ramen noodles with 4-5 pieces of very thin chicken in a very large container. She was disappointed to say the least. I've gone back because I keep hoping that the restaurant notices and fixed it, but I'm done and I'll drive to get my next Chinese fix. I tried! I really did, but the disappointment is just too much to get past. I hope you read this and find it useful before you go next time.

My wife and I came in here for lunch after a close friend highly recommended it. I ordered the pepper steak combination with won ton soup. My wife ordered spring rolls and vegetable soup. We absolutely loved everything we ordered. Also, our server Mindy was very accommodating and really looked after us. We couldn't have asked for better service. I highly recommend coming here if you're in the area. Tip* Ask for tea once seated. It's free and excellent.

Service was good and fast, menu was very deep and reasonably priced. It was very clean and friendly. While not the blow you away great, defiantly a place to revisit again:)

This has been my favorite Chinese place for 7 years now but, time to start looking for another. Last time the breading on the chicken in the Almond Boneless Chicken was so thick, it was mushy. I called and was told to order it well next time. Today while I didn't order it well, it was cooked well. No problem with that but the chicken which use to be so tender, was so tough, I had a hard time chewing through it. Not just one piece but all of it. Sad because this was a place I brag up to all my friends. I am so happy I didn't ask a friend to go with me today. Maybe eating there instead of take out would make a difference. Just not ready to take the chance anymore. Very disappointed.

Tried to have lunch there today but because I have shellfish allergies and I couldn't get a straight answer if something I ordered would or would not have oyster sauce in it, I didn't order anything. When I asked the women at the counter what if any dishes contained seafood or oyster sauce, she turned and asked an older Asian woman who was bagging orders and she said, "it's just a little bit of oyster sauce". When I said I couldn't have any oyster sauce, and asked what dishes didn't have any oyster sauce, she just rolled her eyes and muttered something under her breath. The woman at the counter didn't really understand what the older woman was saying and was doing her best to be accommodating but the older woman just didn't seem to interested in talking about whether food from the restaurant would or would not kill me. Needless to say, I didn't try anything there. If everything has oyster sauce in it, that's fine, just say so. However, being rude and cavalier about the ingredients in in your food that may or may not be lethal to customers, would seem to warrant a little bit of a direct response. To put it simply, the older woman, didn't really seem to care about the conversation or what, if any lethal outcome would result from their food. Food may good, but I'll never know.

    Awesome almond boneless chicken

Ok so this is the best Chinese food I've had in Michigan, maybe further. The quality of ingredients used, both vegetables and chicken is unparalleled by any other Chinese I've tried, and I've tried a lot. The sauces are delicious. The ice cream at the end if you dine in is a unique treat. We now live an hour from here, but still stop in whenever we're around because it simply can't be beat.

Always a safe bet. Good food, nice people! I do however find it weird they are now charging for fortune cookies... Isn't that part of the whole Chinese food experience Lol!

Wife and I are always looking for an excellent Chinese (American) restaurant to order TO GO. After reading a few reviews and seeing 4+ stars, we had hope. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. Not even satisfied. We tried a smattering of items, including the Lemon Chicken, General Tso's chicken, egg roll, spring roll, hot-n-sour soup, chicken fried rice and lettuce wraps. The only decent items were the egg roll, the lemon sauce (was on the side) and the rice. The lemon chicken was soggy not crisp, the general tso's was almost tasteless. The hot-n-sour soup was mediocre at best. The lettuce wraps came with romaine lettuce, which we have never experienced before. They were more like lettuce spears, than wraps. The portions were fine. And not a fortune cookie to be found with a $40+ order. To be fair, this was a TO GO experience and the place was crowded for a sit down experience.

Best Chinese food in Lake Orion for sure. Staff is great, prices are even better and food is awesome! There is definitely enough food for two meals. Great spot.

The food is really good. They've messed up my order countless times though... Once even giving me a chicken egg foo yung patty with my veggie egg foo yung which made me sick as I'm a vegetarian. Another time they gave me the entirely wrong dish. I avoid this place as much as possible, but it's my parents' favorite Chinese in the area so sometimes I have to endure. Make sure your order is correct before you leave if you're getting carry out.

Make sure to double check your order they screwed up mine the last 3 times good food but they cant read!

Tried going to Carrie Lee's for dine-in. Long wait to get a table because of the lack of service. Once we were told where to sit, we were greeted and told not to order certain things on the menu because no one ever orders that particular item. We walked out.

My wife and I have attempted dozens of Chinese restaurants looking for that perfect tasting Sweet & Sour Chicken. We found it here. The chicken is very tender, perfect amount of breading and sauce is the perfect blend of sweet and sour. We also had General Taos Chicken (mild). Awesome dish. A single portion is big enough to feed two. We definitely will be back. My only complaint is the dining room was a bit cold.

I wasn't expecting as much when we went to Carrie Lee's. The food was great and the portions and presentations were excellent. This place reminded me of the Cantonese places we went as a family in the 50's and 60's. When I see a menu like the one at Carrie Lee's, I usually order items that are standard items of the ilk. So when we ate there, I ordered Pork Egg Foo Young with Mushrooms. It was relatively inexpensive considering that it came with Won-ton soup, egg roll and fried rice. Actually almost everything on the menu, when ordered, came with those sides. But what was really surprising was that the platter arrived with three huge patties. In 60's style, the entrees were served with silver heat retaining lids. My wife ordered shrimp with garlic sauce and that too was a large appetizing portions and it was replete with fresh Chinese vegetables. Service was attentive and the menu was extensive. This is a great place and we will certainly return.

I've been going to this place for years and I've never had a complaint. Their vegetable dinners are amazing and my husband always prefers their egg rolls over any other Chinese restaurant. The carryout is always quick and always right!

Old style Cantonese...brought me right back to my childhood. Happened across this place by chance, I was actually supposed to grab a pizza at the place next door, but wandered over to Carrie Lee's because it looked a little more inviting on an 80 degree night. Don't let the drab decor fool you, this food is fresh and delicious and affordable compared to other places in the Detroit area. Sure...it's off the beaten path, but well worth the drive and perfect if you are trying to grab a bite before or after a movie. We ordered crab appetizer (traditional crab wontons), Mongolian beef and General Tsao's chicken. The flavors were great. Very fresh. Both meals came with choice of soup, egg rolls and rice. A lot of food for two and plenty of left overs. The wine and beer prices were good as well. I will be back!

I am not a big fan of the chinese food, but this is a decent option. I find the Waterford location more of a dine in place with some carry out, and the Lake Orion location more of a carry out than dine in. If you carry out the prices are significatly lower. However, when dining in, your meal comes with soup, egg roll, and ice cream. I have always enjoyed their wonton soup. Decently filled wontons, nice broth and a few greens and scallons floating about. The egg rolls are bean sprout egg rolls, which is my preferance. They have great plum sauce and pugent hot mustard. I always stick with the no. 18 aka General Tso. I recommend you order is extra hot. It is a starch battered fried chicken and the pieces are small-ish cut. This is my personal preferance. I do not like big pieces of heavily battered meat. It is barely battered, crispy and dainty. Nicely sauced, not drowning. Do not get confused, the portions are huge. The combos are served with fried rice typically. I highly recommend getting the beverage, the volcano bowl. It is served in a ceramic bowl with dancing hula girls and in the center is a volcano stack which is lit on fire. It is filled with a fruity, yummy punch and two gigantic straws. So fun. Back in the day my friend and I even sweet talked the manager at the Waterford location to let us purchase two of the actual volcano bowl containers to keep. How nice!! The almond chicken is also a good choice. No almond cookie, but a fortune cookie. And ice cream to boot. Carry out is ready in amazing time.

Found this on yelp, we were just passing through. AWESOME food and service. The sampler plates are for "one" person but they are huuuge. The samplers also come with fried rice while the entrees come with white rice. The samplers did us fine, and we are all foodies! Two out of the three couldn't finish the samplers...You know I was the one that cleaned the plate...

Eat your heart out Panda Express, your Orange Chicken doesn't stand a chance vs. Carrie Lee's. AWESOME Orange Chicken, the best I've had by far. I also ordered the Yang Chow fried rice, which was almost equally impressive--with an abundance of HUGE shrimp, chicken and pork. I've also had their crab rangoon, which is good, but nothing to write home about. With the abundance of crappy, MSG-laden Chinese restaurants that litter every town, I am truly thankful that I live so close to Carrie Lee's.

In all of the years my parents have been coming here I can't say one time that I've enjoyed their good. Nothing about it tastes authentic and the service isn't very great either. It's quite disappointing.

If you have ever had good Chinese food, stay away from this place! Food/ingredient quality is poor, preparation is cheap, and overall flavor is below average. Everyone that I have spoken with agrees with me that they don't know how this place has stayed in business for as along as it has!! Staff was nice, but that is unfortunately where the good experience ended.

Best Chinese food around the general tsou chicken is to die for I could eat it daily !!! Service is great and food is amazing!

Meh. We heard and read many good things about Carrie Lee's, but after a few tries, we're still not impressed. I wanted to like it because everyone else seems to, but it just isn't happening. Nothing 'wrong' with it really, but there are plenty of other places we like better that we'll visit instead.

I've had some bad Chinese food but this place wins. Food quality and flavor is below that of a buffet quality. Save money and time, pass this place.

Not sure I should refer to Yelp on reviews because so many people loved this place. Not that it was awful but it was mediocre to me. Since everyone raved about the Orange Chicken I got that along with Singapore noodles. Both were average and on the dry side. On the positives the person who answered the phone was pleasant and I do like they don't use MSG. Perhaps I will have to try something else over there.

Best almond chicken around.... This place would be perfect if the dining room was a bit nicer.

I've been coming here to Carrie Lee's for years, sometimes it seems that we've eaten there a couple times a month. Portions are generous, definitely large. The food is not overly salty, not laden with MSG and prepared fresh. Special requests, such as "No carrots" are always granted - which I really appreciate. Don't like bamboo shoots? No problem! The only gripe that I have is that if you like spicy food, you have to ask for it extra spicy - the spicy dishes are not spicy. At other restaurants I would be leery of asking for extra spicy, but not here. The menu is extensive, there are a few items that are available that aren't on the menu, you just have to ask. Don't see your beloved dish that you always order elsewhere? Just ask for it, they probably will make it for you. Fresh, fast and decent. Nothing over the top, but a clean and not scary Chinese restaurant - the kind where you just aren't sure what is going on in the kitchen. It's all good here at Carrie Lee's.

Hands Down the worst Chinese food I have ever had. The Lo Mein is horrible. I have never seen Lo Mein made our of angel hair pasta until I went to Carrie Lee. Come on Carrie get some authentic Lo Mein noodles Jeez. Oh yea a little brown sauce goes a long way. Oodles of noodles from Nissan has more flavor. The orange chicken was the worst it tasted like they sprinkle orange kool-aid on top and said wah la. I am from the east coast can someone tell me where I can get some decent Chinese food. #desperate.

Way out in Lake Orion... in the boonies beyond Great Lakes Outlets(?)... in a non-descript shopping mall lies a true gem: Carrie Lee's, one of the best Chinese carry-out joints period. Kinda stumbled upon this place through family... but I love it... and the left-overs the second day taste just as good (maybe even better than the original day?) which is shockingly rare for restaurant food. The orange chicken, general tso, mongolian beef... whatever.. it's all fantastic. If you happen to be in the area... highly recommended!

I recently moved and I miss my Carrie Lee's. You got a lot of bang for your buck and there is always friendly service. Sweet and sour chicken combo with won ton soup, fried rice and an egg roll followed by peppermint ice cream. Yup, that's what I call a meal!

Good Chinese place, quick service and great food and a lot of it for a low price. Will continue to go there when I get a craving for it. Love the beef with broccoli.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
